Birmingham's Fashion Your Home/Spring+Summer 2013 begins Thursday

Birmingham has a lot of things, but one thing it doesn't is a traditional department store anchor. That's why a consortium of furniture and home decor merchants has banded together to create Blueprint: The Birmingham Home Collection to make this trendy Oakland County city a one-stop place for your home needs. Their first event, Fashion Your Home/Spring+Summer 2013, kicks off Thursday, May 2nd and runs through May 4. More than 15 stores — including Artloft, Birmingham Design Studio, LaBelle Provence and Scandia Home — will offer special seminars and design consultations on everything from coordinating furniture with oriental rugs to home organization techniques.

"Few cities across the state, or regionally, have such a concentration of home furnishing stores," says John Heiney, executive director of the Birmingham Principal Shopping District. "Collectively this segment can act as an 'anchor' of sorts for the entire downtown."
